U.N. Body Says U.S. Lax on Clerical Sex Abuse Cases

Reuters’ Tom Heneghan reports that the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child has voiced concern about the “lack of measures” taken by U.S. legal authorities to prosecute sexual abuse within religious institutions. The committee’s recent report stated “it was ‘deeply concerned’ to find widespread sexual abuse by clerics and staff of religious institutions and ‘a lack of measures … to properly investigate cases and prosecute them.'”
