Why Growing Parts of the Christian Right Are Convinced It’s the Apocalypse

Molly Olmstead of Slate reports that members of the Christian far-right increasingly believe in a current or imminent apocalypse that foretells “the end of days.” She partially attributes the increase to the coalescence of former President Trump’s rhetoric about the deep state and election fraud with evangelical beliefs regarding the antichrist. Tommy Ice, an evangelical who believes in a coming apocalypse, said, “The reason it’s happening is the totalitarianism in the United States. It’s because of the seemingly overnight decline of America, from our perspective. It’s a huge shift, the stealing of an election. When has that ever happened in the United States?”
