Mastriano’s Attacks on Jewish School Set Off Outcry Over Antisemitic Signaling

Katie Glueck of The New York Times reports, “Doug Mastriano, the Republican nominee for governor of Pennsylvania, has rattled a diverse swath of the state’s Jewish community, alarming liberal Jews with his remarks and fair-right associations, and giving pause to more conservative ones.” Mastriano has consistently criticized his opponent, Jewish Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, for attending a Jewish day school, calling it “privileged” and “exclusive.” Charlie Saul, an Orthodox Jewish lawyer from Pittsburgh, said, “The Orthodox community would generally swing more toward Republican. But in this situation, because of the association of Mastriano with antisemites, I think that they’ll swing Democrat.”
