Students Across the Country Walk Out in Protest of Discrimination by Religious Schools

Alejandra Molina of Religion News Service reports that students at religious universities and high schools around the country are staging a walkout on Tuesday to protest LGBTQ discrimination by religious schools. The protest, Strike Out Queer-Phobia, is being organized by the nonprofit Religious Exemptions Accountability Project and a Brigham Young University student group called the Black Menaces. Veronica Bonifacio Penales, a queer student at Baylor University, said, “We shouldn’t have to compromise where we go because they don’t want to accept who we are. Baylor has taught me what I don’t want my religion to be.”
