He Could Be Our First Jewish President. But First He Needs to Beat a Christian Nationalist.

For Politico Magazine, Holly Otterbein reports that Josh Shapiro, the Democratic nominee for Governor of Pennsylvania, is highlighting his Jewish faith in his race against Republican Doug Mastriano. Shapiro said, “In some communities where … one might think I wouldn’t be welcome, and I speak about my faith, I find that it actually allows me to connect with people on a deeper level.” Shapiro has traveled to houses of worship throughout the state to speak with people of different faiths. Mastriano has faced accusations of Christian nationalism and anti-Semitism given his ties to far-right social media platforms, though he rejects those labels.
