God and Guns

Kimberly Winston of FiveThirtyEight reports on contrasting responses to gun violence by communities of faith. She writes about two pastors whose churches were attacked. “Both pastors buried their dead, mourned their incalculable losses, read their Bibles, prayed and eventually returned to their ministries,” Winstone writes. “But Risher, a nondenominational Christian pastor, dedicated herself to gun-law reform and reducing access to weapons. Pomeroy, a Southern Baptist, armed and trained his church members and routinely wears his weapon in the pulpit.” Both sides see their approach as divinely ordained and upholding the values of Scripture.
