U.S. Proposes Rescinding Expansion of Religious Exemption for Contractors

Julia Love of Reuters reports, “The U.S. Department of Labor on Monday announced a proposal that would rescind a Trump administration rule that expanded a religious exemption from anti-discrimination laws for federal contractors.” The decision will narrow the Trump administration’s standard that all who “hold themselves out to the public as carrying out a religious purpose” are eligible for an exemption. The Department of Labor argued that the new standard would enable a more consistent application of the exemption.
