Access, Travel Rules Influence Missionary Vaccine Policies

Holly Meyer of the Associated Press reports, “The global agency of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest evangelical Protestant denomination in the U.S., announced this month it is requiring vaccinations for missionaries they’re sending into the field amid the pandemic.” The growing number of countries with vaccine requirements bolstered the decision to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine. Some leaders within the denomination, such as the Rev. Allen Nelson IV, disagree with the decision. He said, “This is something that must be left up to a person’s own conscience, research and discussion with a doctor, as well as their particular ministry context.”
