Trump Defends Modi, Refuses to Weigh in on Citizenship Law

NBC Washington’s Jonathan Lemire and Jill Colvin report that Trump would not comment on India’s new citizenship law that excludes Muslims from its shortened naturalization process. They write, “The law is raising fears the country is inching nearer to a religious citizenship test.” During his visit to the country, Trump said, “I don’t want to discuss that. I want to leave that to India.” The law, supported by prime minister Narendra Modi, has incited protests over its discrimination against Muslims, and several people have been killed as a result of the violence.
