White Evangelicals Are the Only Religious Group to Support Trump

Vox’s Tara Isabella Burton reports on a recent Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) poll, which found that white evangelicals are the only religious group to view President Donald Trump’s presidency favorably. While 71 percent of white evangelicals support the president, mainline Protestant support remained about evenly split and a majority both Catholics and black Protestants view the president negatively. Burton writes, “Even this summer’s family separation crisis – during which several prominent evangelical leaders, including the usually pro-Trump Franklin Graham, spoke forcefully against Trump’s family separation policy – seems to have done little to ameliorate Trump’s base’s affection for him.”
