Letter Suggests Vatican Knew of Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against McCarrick in 2000

CNN’s Ray Sanchez and Aaron Cooper report, “A letter from a top Vatican official appears to acknowledge that the Holy See knew about sexual abuse allegations against former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick for at least several months before he was elevated to cardinal in 2001.” The letter was sent in October 2006 by then-Archbishop Leonardo Sandri. The Rev. James Boniface Ramsey, who received the letter in 2006, said “it was the missing piece” to prove that the church had information about allegations against McCarrick for many years.
