“I Don’t Know How You Got This Way”: A Neo-Nazi Reveals Himself to His Family

The Washington Post’s Terrence McCoy reports on the relationship between Kam Musser, a 21-year-old neo-Nazi, and his mother Kirsten and grandmother Bobbie. In the year since the 2016 election, Musser moved from sympathizing with white supremacist groups to becoming an active member of the neo-Nazi Traditionalist Worker Party. For Musser’s family, his political shift seems unexplainable given his progressive family background. Of his mother, McCoy writes, “She felt a sadness come over her, and a sense of shame, that her son was so dedicated to a cause she not only found repugnant, and was certain would never yield anything, but seemed so distant from who he was.”
