President Trump’s Evangelical Advisers Seek to Tamp Down Vatican Criticism

TIME’s Elizabeth Dias reports, “Evangelical advisers of President Trump have requested a meeting with Pope Francis to quell criticism from Vatican allies over the political direction of American Catholics.” The request comes after a Vatican-approved article accused conservative evangelicals in the United States of misreading the Bible for political gain. Johnnie Moore, an evangelical adviser to Trump, said, “We would be willing to get on a plane tomorrow to Rome to meet with whoever, whenever to create a space for dialogue instead of conflict.”
