The U.S. Government’s Fight Against Violent Extremism Loses its Leader

The Atlantic’s Peter Beinart writes about Friday’s resignation of George Selim, a top Homeland Security official who worked with the American Muslim community to fight against radicalization. Selim, an Arab American and conservative Republican, was a leader of the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) effort in the Department of Homeland Security. Selim said, “There were clearly political appointees in this administration who didn’t see the value of community partnerships with American Muslims.”
