Uganda’s persecution of the LGBT community is rooted in American evangelicals’ spreading of an “antigay gospel” in the country. In Southern California, Katusabe was resettled with the help of a Christian network that included a liberal Episcopal Church and evangelical allies. “The Christian faith does call you to love people radically, whether you agree with them or not,” an employee with the evangelical agency World Relief told Kushner.
