The Pope Commemorates the Reformation that Split Western Christianity

Sylvia Poggioli of NPR reports that “Pope Francis is traveling Monday to Sweden, an overwhelmingly Lutheran country, to kick off a yearlong commemoration of the Protestant Reformation that split the churches 500 years ago.” Catholic-Lutheran relations have been steadily improving since the 1960s, and the pope has said that he wants to work on social issues with the Lutheran Church.
