Pope Brings 12 Syrian Refugees to Italy in Lesson for Europe

Derek Gatopoulos, Nicole Winfield, and Elena Becatoros of the Associated Press report, “In an extraordinary gesture both political and personal, Pope Francis brought 12 Syrian Muslims to Italy aboard his plane Saturday after an emotional visit to the Greek island of Lesbos, which has faced the brunt of Europe’s migration crisis.” The families were welcomed to the Vatican by a large crowd on Saturday and will be supported by the Church as they settle into their new homes. “It’s a drop of water in the sea. But after this drop, the sea will never be the same,” FrancisĀ said of theĀ gesture.
