Meet the Igbo, Nigeria’s Lost Jewish Tribe

At The Forward, Sam Kestenbaum reports on the Nigerian Igbo tribe and their ties to Judaism. Although the tribe is not officially considered Jewish, some Igbo believe they are also descendants of the Israelites, and have endured similar violent persecution to that of European and American Jews. “This is Judaism,” said Tudor Parfitt, director of Florida International University’s Global Jewish Studies program. “They see themselves as Jews. They love other Jews and they love Israel.”
