Why Sci-Fi Has So Many Catholics

posted on November 11, 2015

Grayson Clary of The Atlantic reports, “For decades, some of the speculative fiction’s highest awards have rained down on stories of science and faith, and many of the most famous star the Catholic Church.” Clary attributes this phenomenon to the presence of science and expedition in Jesuit tradition. However, Clary also cites common suspicion of the Jesuit faith as a reason for their portrayal at times in less-than-favorable light. Clary writes, “They’re there for the disillusioning; set ‘em up, knock ‘em down, and make sure to aim for the faith.”
