Why Jeb Bush Can’t Bank on Faith Like His Brother Did

At NPR, Don Gonyea examines religious Republican responses to likely presidential candidate Jeb Bush, whose strategy of asserting himself as Catholic while avoiding more evangelical statements is garnering mixed results in Iowa. While Bush’s opinions on many social issues should suit his constituencies, some voters find him too moderate. “I would say I’m a Christian conservative, but I think at this time it’s a wide open field with lots of options,” Byron Carlson, a physician, said. “Jeb just wasn’t that impressive to me listening to him.”
