UPS’s No-Beard Policy Hit with Religious Discrimination Suit

Fortune’s Claire Zillman reports that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed suit against UPS on Wednesday, arguing that its appearance policy, which forbids hair below the collar and facial hair below the lip, violates its workers’ right to religious practice. The EEOC complaint states, “Since at least 2004, the company has failed to hire or promote workers whose religious practices conflict with UPS’s appearance policy,” Zillman writes. “It’s also failed to provide religious accommodations to its clean-cut look policy throughout the U.S.”
