Tennessee Bill Denying Service Based on Counselor Religion Goes to Governor

Suzannah Gonzales reports, “A Tennessee bill allowing counselors to cite religious beliefs for refusing service to patients is headed to the governor, one of a raft of state measures that critics say discriminates against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender individuals.” Governor Bill Haslam now has ten days to decide on the bill after it easily passed the Republican controlled state House and Senate. Tennessee, North Carolina, and Missouri are also considering similar measures.
