Report Criticizes Lax Efforts On Wartime Looted Art

In The New York Times, Graham Bowley reports, “Italy is identified as one of the countries doing the least to research or identify items that may [have] been looted from Jews during World War II.” The report, by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany and the World Jewish Restitution Organization, found that while 47 countries have agreed to trace ownership of art collections in hopes of returning stolen works, two-thirds of those countries “have made little or no progress.”
