Pope Francis Meets Iran’s President to Boost Nuke Deal, Mideast Peace
posted on January 26, 2016Rosie Scammell of Religion News Service reports that Pope Francis and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met at the Vatican to discuss topics ranging from Iran’s nuclear deal with the United States to religious toleration. The meeting between the leader of the Iranian state and the head of the Catholic church, the first such encounter since 1999, is part of a larger schedule for Rouhani, who is attempting to secure economic agreements with various European states to stabilize his nation’s economy. At the end of their talks, Rouhani said, ““I ask you to pray for me. It’s been a pleasure and I wish you well in your work.”
