posted on August 4, 2014In act three of This American Life’s episode “Got Your Back,” Kevin Sieff profiles Hamida Gulistani, an advocate for women’s rights in Afghanistan. Thanks in part to the former U.S. troop presence in Afghanistan, she was able to get support for women who had suffered abuse and get local religious leaders and the media involved. As American troops exit the country, however, her life has been increasingly threatened by police and the Taliban. “To be honest, I’m very scared,” she told Sieff.
