Lawsuit Over New York Police Surveillance of Muslims Is Revived

Benjamin Weiser of The New York Times reports that a federal appeals court has reinstated a civil rights lawsuit claiming the New York Police Department illegally targeted Muslim communities for surveillance after 9/11. Nick Paolucci, spokesman for the New York City Law Department, said that “the issue is whether the N.Y.P.D. in fact surveilled individuals and businesses solely because they are Muslim, something the N.Y.P.D. has never condoned.” Legal director of Muslim Advocates Glenn Katon says the lawsuit is trying “to ensure that no American should be spied on simply because of the way he or she prays.”
