Iraq Crisis Pulls in U.S. and Iran as Violent Militants Capture More Cities

Michael Pearson and Holly Yan at CNN report on new developments surrounding the continuing advance of militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group. According to Pearson and Yan, although the Iraqi military has launched air raids, killing more than 200 militants, ISIS gained control of several more cities and villages over the weekend. United States Secretary of State John Kerry suggested that the US could work with Iran to quell fighting in the region. “I think we are open to any constructive process here that could minimize the violence, hold Iraq together — the integrity of the country — and eliminate the presence of outside terrorist forces that are ripping it apart,” Kerry said.
