Finally Enjoying Freedoms, Cuban Catholics Press for More

At Reuters, Daniel Trotta reports that as the Cuban government has eased its restrictions on religious freedom, the Catholic Church has began to flourish once again in the Caribbean nation. The communist government has recently authorized the construction of several new churches ahead of Pope Francis’ three-day stay in the country. “The government was not favorable at first, but it has slowly become tolerant as it has seen the results,” said Teresa Vaz, director of the Sisters for the Love of God preschool in Havana.
