At The Nation, Achara Deboonme discusses whether religious principles can minimize the effects of the global financial crises. Many faiths offer advice on economics, from the Christian notion of helping the poor to the Islamic principle of strict financial regulation. “[P]eople disassociate the economy from religion,” Phra Maha Nopadol, a Buddhist monk, said during the World Economic Forum on East Asia. “That’s at the root of the financial crisis.”
