Catholic Leaders Celebrate Mass in Shadow of Border Fence, Call for U.S. Immigration Reform

The Associated Press reports on Catholic leaders celebrating Mass at the Mexican-American border. One of the Mass attendees, Mike Fleming, said, “Someday in my lifetime I hope this comes down. We’re all one people. As Christians, we’re all one people under God. There’s no need for this wall.” The ceremony was conducted in part to draw attention to the plight of immigrants and urge political leaders to pass immigration reform. Cardinal Sean O’Malley of the Boston Archdiocese said, “This is not just a political or economic problem. This is a moral problem.”
