Bishops Elect Louisville Archbishop New President

Rachel Zoll of the Associated Press reports, “The nation’s Roman Catholic bishops on Tuesday elected Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Kentucky to be their new president as they grapple with changing priorities under Pope Francis.” Kurtz, who heads the Archdiocese of Louisville, emerged from a field of 10 candidates with just over half the votes. He succeeds Cardinal Timothy Dolan and will lead the American Catholic Church in conversation on same-sex marriage, abortion and other divisive social issues.
