Bangladesh Gives Former Islamist Leader Life Term For War Crimes
posted on July 16, 2013Ruma Paul and Nandita Bose of Reuters report, “Bangladesh’s war crimes tribunal convicted and sentenced a former Islamist party leader to life imprisonment on Monday, in the fifth such conviction since January, as violence broke out between police and his supporters across the country.” Ghulam Azam was convicted of crimes against humanity including attempted genocide during Bangladesh’s war for independence against Pakistan in 1971.
