A Christian Convert, on the Run in Afghanistan

In The New York Times, Azam Ahmed profiles Josef, a convert to Christianity who is in hiding in Afghanistan, seeking to flee from relatives who wish to kill him for renouncing Islam. Josef was living with his wife’s family in Pakistan when they found documents indicating that he had converted to Christianity. Ahmed writes, “In official eyes here, there are no Afghan Christians. The few Afghans who practice the faith do so in private for fear of persecution, attending one of a handful of underground churches that are believed to be operating in the country.”
