Pope Francis Gets Political in Washington Debut

Stephen Collinson of CNN reports that Pope Francis tackled “deeply divisive issues,” including climate change, same-sex marriage, and immigration in his address at the White House on Wednesday. Francis expressed support for President Obama’s efforts to address climate change: “Accepting the urgency, it seems clear to me also that climate change is a problem that can no longer be left to a future generation.” The pope took a more conservative stance on same-sex marriage, cautioning that a “tolerant and inclusive” society should not come at the expense of religious liberty.
