Congressional Bill Seeks to Essentially Ban “Gay Conversion” Programs Across the U.S.

In the Los Angeles Times, Mary Ann Toman-Miller reports on a bill introduced to Congress Tuesday that would prohibit residential treatment facilities from discriminating against LGBT youth. Such legislation would essentially ban a subset of these facilities that performs “gay conversion” therapy, and that has been accused of abusing its residents. Treatments at some of these facilities include “starvation, excessive physical restraints and neglectful medical treatment,” Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida says. “No one should undergo this physical or emotional abuse.”
