United Methodist Conferences Petition Denomination on Behalf of LGBT Rights

At Religion News Service, Renee K. Gadoua discusses the United Methodist bodies calling for reform in church law, which currently prohibits both same-sex weddings and openly LGBT ministers in the church. “Late last month, members of the Upper New York Annual Conference approved eight resolutions calling for changes to the denomination’s guidebook, the Book of Discipline, regarding gays and lesbians,” Gadoua writes. Similar resolutions from this and other conferences will be presented to the Methodist General Conference in 2016.
