Catholic Archbishop and Aide Resign in Minnesota Over Sexual Abuse Scandal

In The New York Times, Mark S. Getzfred and Mitch Smith report that Minnesota Archbishop John C. Nienstedt and auxiliary Bishop Lee A. Piché have resigned. Ten days ago, Minnesota filed criminal charges against the archdiocese for mishandling “complaints of sexual misconduct against a priest,” Getzfred and Smith write. Archbishop Nienstedt said he would “leave with a clear conscience knowing that my team and I have put in place solid protocols to ensure the protection of minors and vulnerable adults.”
