G.O.P.’s Israel Support Deepens as Political Contributions Shift

In The New York Times, Eric Lipton reports that a small group of wealthy and hawkish pro-Israel donors have deepened their financial support for Republican members of Congress, which has in turn strengthened the views of some of those members. “Israel did not traditionally represent that kind of emotional focus for any element of the Republican Party,” says GOP historian Geoffrey Kabaservice. “But the feeling now is that it is a winning issue, as it helps them to appear strong on foreign policy.”
