GOP Renews Push To Restrict Abortion

At USA Today, Susan Davis reports, “Abortion and reproductive rights groups are readying for a renewed legislative fight in the new, GOP-controlled Congress.” House Republicans plan to vote on a bill that would federally ban abortion after 20 weeks, with guarantees that the Republican dominated Senate will vote on the bill this year. However, abortion rights advocates are confident that President Obama would veto the bill if it were to reach the White House. “This president has been a champion for women,” Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards said. “I think there are the votes to block the 20-week ban in the Senate.”
