Boko Haram: Terror’s Insidious New Face

In Newsweek, Alex Perry explores the genesis and callousness of Boko Haram after the mass kidnapping of schoolgirls publicized the militant Islamists’ reign of terror. “The key question … is whether a government crippled by ineptitude and greed is capable of addressing the deprivation it has allowed in northern Nigeria and the ferocious rebellion it has spawned,” Perry writes. As sectarian militants continue to slaughter civilians and the government attempts to curtail the violence and maintain power, Perry reports that Nigeria will have a hard time recovering from this bloody, dirty war.
