Israel Resumes Attacks After Hamas Rejects Cease-Fire Plan

“The Israeli military ended a unilateral cease-fire with Hamas on Tuesday and resumed airstrikes in the Gaza Strip after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to escalate Israeli operations there in response to continued rocket attacks from the coastal enclave,” William Booth and Griff Witte write in The Washington Post. Israel accepted the Egyptian-brokered cease-fire on Monday evening, the authors report, but Hamas officials refused the deal, saying that they had not been consulted. Israel has amassed forces on the border with Gaza to prepare for a possible ground invasion if no cease-fire is accepted.
