Pope Hits Out at Criticism of Church Over Sexual Abuse

BBC News reports that Pope Francis has responded to criticism directed toward the Vatican from the United Nations on sexual abuse, saying the Church has acted with transparency and responsibility in eliminating pedophilia. “No-one else has done more. Yet the Church is the only one to have been attacked,” Pope Francis told the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. “The statistics on the phenomenon of violence against children are shocking, but they also clearly show that the great majority of abuses are carried out in family or neighbourhood environments.”
