Judge: Ky. Must Recognize Same-Sex Marriages

The Associated Press reports on a Kentucky federal judge’s ruling that struck down part of the state’s constitutional same-sex marriage ban. U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn wrote, “Assigning a religious or traditional rationale for a law does not make it constitutional when that law discriminates against a class of people without other reasons.” The ruling came in response to lawsuits filed by same-sex couples seeking to have their out-of-state marriages recognized in Kentucky.
