Peggy Fletcher Stack of The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the LDS Church has explained its former ban on black priests, which lasted more than a century. The Church’s website explains the teachings were influenced more by the culture of the times, rather than its theology. It reads, “[I]n theology and practice, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints embraces the universal human family. Latter-day Saint scripture and teachings affirm that God loves all of his children and makes salvation available to all.”
