A Most Expensive Book

At The New York Times, Jill Lepore writes about the auctioning of “The Whole Book of Psalms,” the first English-language book printed in the New World. Estimated to go for between $15 million to $30 million, “The Whole Book of Psalms” was part of a library collection owned by Thomas Prince. However, Lepore notes, ““The Whole Book of Psalms” is less a book than a ruin — the remains of another age. More rare and endangered than old books, lately, are bookstores and public libraries.”
