NC Senate Passes “Sharia Law” Bill

Annalise Frank of The News & Observer reports that the North Carolina state senate passed a bill last week that states no foreign law can supersede the U.S. or North Carolina constitutions. Although the bill does not directly mention it, the legislation primarily targets Sharia law. The N.C. Bar Association opposed the bill, saying such bills will harm international relations and will have a “widespread negative impact on business, adversely affecting … economic development in the states in which such a law is passed.”
