Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker Signs Texas-Style Abortion Ban

Katie McDonough of Salon reports Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker signed a sweeping anti-abortion bill into law on Friday, similar to the hotly contested bill facing the Texas legislature. The law requires doctors to obtain admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles in addition to requiring women seeking an abortion to undergo an ultrasound. Planned Parenthood, whose clinics are threatened by the measure, quickly filed a suit, saying, “The health and safety of American women are at stake — and that is why this unconstitutional law cannot be allowed to stand.”
