Obama Clashes With African Host Over Gay Rights

Nedra Pickler of the Associated Press reports from Senegal, “President Barack Obama on Thursday praised the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage as a ‘victory for American democracy’ but clashed with his African host over gay rights in a sign of how far the movement has to go internationally.” After President Obama insisted equal rights in regards to gays should be recognized “universally,” President Macky Sall of Senegal, a country in which nine out of every ten people “believe homosexuality should not be accepted by society,” rebuffed, “We are still not ready to decriminalize homosexuality.”
