Here’s What Americans Want Trump to Do in the Middle East

For POLITICO Magazine, Shibley Telhami reports, “As President Donald Trump tries to revive diplomacy seeking a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the American public is divided on its vision for a solution.” The University of Maryland Critical Issues Poll, conducted as President Trump visited the Middle East over the weekend, found that 57 percent of Republicans want Trump to lean toward Israel compared to just 16 percent of Democrats. Telhami writes, “While Americans believe Israeli-Palestinian peace is important, they see confronting ISIS and addressing the Syrian conflict as higher priorities.”
