Liberty University Students Want to Be Christians—Not Republicans
At The Atlantic, Emma Green writes that thousands of Liberty University students have signed a letter expressing disagreement with the university president’s endorsement of Donald Trump. Jerry Falwell Jr., the president of Liberty, endorsed Trump in January and recently defended the candidate’s degrading comments about women. Green writes that, given the Christian campus’s focus on evangelical values, “The cognitive dissonance between Trump’s comments and the way Liberty students are taught to behave is intense—even more so because Falwell defended Trump after the tapes came out.”
